Dave Coates has been interested in photography for most of his life. He is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and has gained the Master's Award from the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain, their highest award for photographic merit.

Dave is much in demand throughout the north of England, and further afield, as a lecturer, both inside and outside photographic circles. Internationally, Dave has been entering exhibitions and salons for many years. To date he has accumulated in excess of 400 acceptances and over 40 awards in individual events, and his success has been recognised by awards from both the Federation de l'Art Photographique and the Photographic Society of America.

Despite his national and international reputation, Dave remains firmly committed to his local camera club in Northallerton and he is deeply involved with the Northern Counties Photographic Federation. His favourite locations are the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales and his first photographic loves are landscape photography followed by close-up work on flora and fungi. He currently uses a Pentax camera system and uses Fuji Velvia for landscapes and Provia for his natural history work.
